Hi all,
Reaching out here because I am so confused.
I have been training for a marathon since May. The marathon is/was in September. I am not completing the marathon at this point because of an injury that occured about 2 weeks ago after a 19 mile run.
I felt a pain in my ankle about 16 miles into the run and ran through it. Iced and everything when I got home but the pain continued. It got worse, hurting the second I would put my foot down.
The pain is in the back of my ankle and sometimes the bottom of my heel. The heel sorta feels like it’s bruised and the back of my ankle feels like a sharp pain when I run, almost like it might snap.
I’ve taken a little over two weeks off now, I saw a physical therapist who said it might be posterior tibial tendonitis but now I feel not so sure because of where it is hurting.
It does not hurt when I wake up in the morning or when I stand on my tip toes. I feel it sometimes when I walk but it hurts the worst when I jump or run. I haven’t really noticed any swelling, there is no redness or bruising.
I tried running yesterday to see how it would feel and it’s almost like it feels worse.
I am actually sort of depressed. Running felt like the only thing I had. I know that sounds dramatic but maybe other runners understand, because no one in my life seems to get it. I have been training for my first marathon and just like that, it’s over.
Anyways, I don’t know if I should see a doctor at this point and am not really even sure what kind of doctor I should see. Would it be a waste of time because I just need to rest it longer? I have been doing the exercises the PT gave me, have been using the elliptical to keep some kind of cardio and have been strength training. But all I really want is to get back to running…
Any advice is appreciated!!
